There is no doubt that sitting behind the steering wheel as a short driver is one of the most challenging moments of most, if not all short motorists. Much as being short may not be your own making, driving is still possible if you put the negative stigma, if any, aside and you get cruising.Abby Ssemanda, a long distance driver opines that unlike tall motorists, short drivers in most cases have to put in a lot more concentration and focus when they get on the road. This, he says, is not only draining physically but also mentally. The challenging bit, he observes, is when you are driving long cars such as the saloon Toyota Mark II or the Toyota Crown. Getting extra cushions“When you are driving such long cars, you have to get an extra cushion or two to elevate your height to enable you drive well. The number of cushions to use is determined by your level of comfortability and the softness of the cushions you are using. If they were made out of soft sponge, you could need more to reach the steering wheel,” Ssemanda advises. As a short driver, the main challenge is when you are either parking your car in an area that has visible wall boundaries or when you are reversing. This is because you are unable to see the edge of the car which helps you decide when you are to stop. If you do not use cushions, you stand the risk of knocking the motorist ahead of you or the one driving behind you. At worst, you can ram into a wall as you try to imagine if you have really parked well or not.
Thinner seats weigh less, and new materials like plastic composites can serve both as the underlying seat structure and as a substitute for separate upholstery, producing a new generation of slimmer, lighter but harder seats.
People with a short stature have difficulties driving because their feet can barely touch the pedals. Nonetheless, adjusting your car seat and steering wheel will help ease driving. COURTESY PHOTO.

I’ve gotta agree and say that fast food pizza is awful, but you don’t necessarily need a wood fire pizza oven to make good pizza. It’s food, and like art, how “good” the pizza is can be a matter of perspective. There is something to be said for a pizza that is cooked properly and the quality of the ingredients but I personally don’t feel that a wood-fire oven adds anything substantial to the final product.
Heat regulation is key. These ovens don’t have any knobs or buttons, so operators must have a unique technique to maintain the right temperature so you don’t burn your food—or turn it to complete ash! I prefer to use what I call the add/withdrawal method to achieve this. Simply put, I just keep adding wood until I achieve the desired temperature or withdraw the wood when things get too hot.

The story of L.A.’s pizza renaissance may be headlined by the restaurant scene’s most notable figures, but, true to the legacy of CPK and Wolfgang Puck, there is no one-size-fits-all narrative to pizzamaking or the city’s collective impulse to further its pizza culture. It isn’t always about empire-building. Sometimes it’s about holding on to what you have and saying a Hail Mary. Last summer, chef David Wilcox opened Journeymen, a restaurant in Atwater Village that opted for an ambitious profit-sharing business model and a deconstruction of the classic restaurant kitchen hierarchy. All employees had the same starting base pay and flowed from the open kitchen to the front of house seamlessly; stationed roles became fluid. Dishes were ordered in the manner of a dim sum restaurant, checking them off on a menu slip and handing it to the server. Service charges were baked into the prices of the dishes themselves, which meant no tipping or accounting for tax. The goal was to create as fair and equal a wage distribution as possible. “We run an open-book system, so they see how we distribute the allocated payroll revenue. We’re not hiding any numbers,” Wilcox told Food & Wine last year. “We’re sharing with everyone how it works, and saying, ‘Hey, if the restaurant does well, you’re going to do better.’”
Wood-fired ovens will give your dough a delicious smoky flavour, while gas burners get to the ideal temperature quicker (ideally between 400C and 500C) and so add convenience, without compromising too much on flavour.
FZ: Electric deck ovens are easy to operate and have precise temperature and cooking controls that allow the user to set the temperature of the baking chamber and floor and top heating elements. They’re efficient and versatile, allowing users to cook other dishes and more styles of pizza. Operators can also add more decks. They lack the visual appeal of fired ovens, though.
