The pay raises for Cabinet secretaries, deputy secretaries, top administrators and even Vice President Pence are scheduled to go into effect beginning Jan. 5 without legislation to stop them, according to documents issued by the Office of Personnel Management and experts in federal pay.

Joe Di Donato: We’ve been selling a lot of electric pizza ovens due to the fact that they are multi-function. They can do pizza or focaccia bread, and most importantly, it is much easier for kitchen staff to use an electric oven compared to gas or wood-fired ovens. Electric ovens can be placed almost anywhere, and not necessarily underneath a hood, so they can be vented straight out. They can also be used in locations such as office towers where the use of hoods is limited. You have more control with cooking in an electric oven because you have both top and bottom heat, unlike many wood and stone ovens.

Beyond pizza, Sasso’s offers a variety of paninis, salads and “coal fired” appetizers. Sautéed in garlic and finished in the coal oven, the escarole and white bean ($10) is a comfort food-style dish that I fell in love with and cannot recommend highly enough. Part of the secret to this and every dish here is the local sourcing. Many vegetables come from Petrichor Farm in New Hartford, and Smart’s uncle owns G&B Shellfish Farm in Stratford, which provides oysters and clams fresh from the boat.
